Some consumer sites might use some brand of voodoo and golden handshakes to review the DVD rental sites but in this article we lay out our review process bare to the world
How we review sites
In short a secret shopper. We sign up as individual and test them for at least a month but this period may extend up to 6 months.
We start as what we would class as normal user, expecting 15 DVDs a month on 3 disc package and then we throttle for the remainder of our account, to see how the companies cope under stress (yes it is slightly evil of us)
We have a number of sites stacked up for testing we won’t write a review however until we have actually rented from the site
Why are you ratings so low / so high
Firstly we doubt we could ever be accused of being generous, we're a very grump bunch here (ed - thats enough). We try to give a balanced view, we aren’t actually here to sell you packages, we negotiate special offers for you with the companies but ultimately it our readers we please, we are not advertising company we see ourselves as an online magazine.
Sometimes we can be harsh we don’t thing the industry has matured yet and it’s still a long time off replacing a DVD rental shop but we do believe that renting online has some real benefits in terms of choice and convince for a start.
